Circle Time is a joyful time filled with songs, poems, rhymes and fairy tales. Miss Tiffeni engages the children 1 to 6 years of age while the child sits on an adult’s lap or participates with the group. This activity is held on Tuesday mornings for one-half hour and is complimentary.
Mommy-and-Me Craft is conveniently scheduled 15 minutes after Circle Time and is for children ages 1 to 6. Each week’s craft will be fashioned around the current season or holiday. Program length is 30 minutes and limited to 6 children . Price includes materials. Reservation required.
Wet-on-Wet Water Color Painting technique achieves contour free colour forms as well as mixed colours that interweave harmoniously. This class is enjoyed by everyone. Children ages1 ½ to 7 will paint with the three primary colors. Children 8 to 12 will explore primary andsecondary colors. The class covers set up, lesson, discussion and clean-up. Due to the wetness of these painting, all art work is picked up after 24 hours. The magic of wet-on-wet captivates the eye and mind and is great to frame. The class is limited to six children. Beeswax Modeling For those who are not familiar with modeling beeswax, it is a warm and wonderful medium. It is very pliable and warming to the hands and has a delicious honey scent that seems to stimulate the olfactory, tactile, and visual senses. Children will listen to a nature or seasonal story while warming their hands around a piece of beeswax. This will spark their imaginations while they model a treasure to take home.
Felting with Wool is one of the oldest known textile techniques, familiar in many countries around the world. Anyone can make felt, but patience is needed to succeed. It is a process that trains perseverance! Children around ages of four and five particularly enjoy splashing around with soapsuds and wool. A child can felt balls, shooting stars, jewelry, treasure boxes, and many more creations. Price includes materials. Reservation required.
Children’s Knitting Class is for child and adult to do together. Conducted as a 3-week series, all classes must be attended to receive the benefits of instruction. The first week everyone learns the three different ways to finger knit. This is a great place to start since one can see how the yarn is looped around and knitted. It also teaches hand-eye coordination and patience and is surprisingly fun to do. The second week children 7 years and up will be introduced to knitting with thick needles. Their project is a washcloth, a simple and practical item. They will learn how to cast on, count stitches and rows, cross over the yarn from one needle to the other. Those younger will continue finger knitting making belts, jump ropes, and other fun items. The third week is a continuation of the projects and to clear up any knitting confusion. They will also learn how to cast off in order to finish their creations. Price includes needles, wool yarn and instruction time. Reservations are a must as this class is limited to 12 people.
Traditional European Festivals &Seasonal Crafts are celebrated at Kinderhaus Toys where children and adults learn about these time-honored events. A crown is made on Dragon Day in September, a Paper Lantern for the Lantern Walk in November, on St. Nicholas Day in December, the children bring in a shoe for St. Nicholas to fill. Beeswax candles are made on Candlemas Day in February, wool is felted in the shape of an egg for WelcomingSpring in March, and celebrate the birthday of Friedrich Froebel, the father of Kindergarten in April.Dance around a Maypole on May Day in May, make a gold-foil sun to celebrate Summer Solstice in June, and in August, Kinderhaus Toys will introduce the German School Cone Festival for Kindergarten and First Grade children.
